A vessel that is too stable is uncomfortable to sail as it is too rigid. A vessel that does not have enough stability is in danger of flipping over. This highlights the importance of distributing container weight as evenly as possible across the vessel, as shown in the following figure. The vessel section is colored by weight rounded in a grey scale (heavies are dark and lighter containers are progressively lighter in color). The numbers in each cell represent the individual container weight.
